About Our Practice
Riana qualified as an optometrist at the School of Optometry in Johannesburg. Being passionate about the development of her profession she lectured part-time for two years and spent a few years practicing in Pretoria.
She completed her studies in “Advanced Study of Ocular Disease and Pharmaceutical Application” from the New England College of Optometry, Boston (modular course), Cum Laude in 1998.
In 1999 Riana and her daughter relocated to Paarl where she joined her sister, Lizelle van der Walt in private practice. They worked together at Optika Paarl until the end of 2011. Riana pursued her career as a full-time locum in the Western Cape and Namibia for the interim.
Riana still holds her registration at the HPCNA to be able to work in Nambia from time to time.

Comprehensive Eye Examinations
We provide a wide variety of eye exams. Having regular eye exams can also lead to an early diagnosis of potential serious health risks. Our goal is to make a clear and comfortable vision a reality for all of our patients based on the needs of each patient.
Visual Acuity Tests
This test determines the sharpness and clarity of your vision. We can determine how to improve your vision by testing both your near and far vision with eye charts and different lenses.
Contact Lens Consultation
We can determine if you can wear contact lenses by first assessing your eye health. After you have been cleared, you will be fitted and the various types of lenses will be discussed to determine the best option for your lifestyle.
Frame and Spectacle Adjustments and Repairs
Your frames may need to be adjusted or repaired from time to time. Our knowledgeable opticians can adjust the bridge, nose pads, and temples to ensure a proper fit for your face.
Frame Sales
We have a large selection of frames from various brands to choose from. Frame selection is important to be customized with the optimal lens design to meet your specific needs, such as indoor use, outdoor use, driving, and more. Have a specific frame in mind? We will make a plan to find it for you!
Paediatric Optometry
Based on age, we can perform a number of different eye tests on young children. These tests include: colour vision, learning disorders related to vision, coordination, image perception, eye focus and eye muscle control.
Glaucoma Testing
Protect your vision from damage caused by glaucoma with regular complete eye tests. A Comprehensive Glaucoma Exam includes the testing of 5 factors before making a diagnosis.
Low Vision Assessments
We have a special interest in low vision. Assessments are conducted and counselling is provided for patients with partial or full visual loss.
Drivers Licence Screening
Save time at the Traffic Department and let us do your Drivers Licence Screening. You will need to bring a valid Identification Document (ID) along with you. Your screening will be done in co-operation with the National Department of Transport regulations to ensure acceptance.
